Music Appreciation returns to Longford Co Library

Longford Library is delighted to present a series of four music appreciation evenings with music maestros Luke Baxter and Fr Tom Murray.

Luke and Fr Tom have a huge knowledge and enthusiasm for their subject, and this is their fourth series of music appreciation evenings, which are back by popular demand.

Luke is opening the programme with an Irish night at the Proms, featuring our greatest singers of the past, for example Margaret Burke Sheridan, Josef Locke and John McCormack. This will be followed by Fr Tom, who will introduce us to some of the music of the great composers, such as Vivaldi, Greig, Schubert and Strauss.

Luke Baxter has a huge passion for Opera and he will take us through the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s with some popular household names who performed opera, such as Deanna Durbin, Nelson Eddy,  Jeanette McDonald and Mario Lanza.

On the final evening of the series, Fr Tom will introduce us to ten of Classical music’s best virtuoso performers of today – clarinetist Sabine Meyer, pianist Barry Douglas, violinist Nicola Benedetti, guitarist Craig Ogden, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, trumpeter Alison Balsom, oboist Burkhart Glaetzner, bassoonist Karen Geoghegan, flautist James Galway and organist Olivier Latry.

The series will run from Monday, February 25 to Monday, March 25 at Longford Library at 7.30pm. A registration fee of €10 applies and all are welcome to attend.
