Met Éireann weather forecast for Monday, January 21

According to Met Éireann, Monday will start dry but rain will gradually spread east to all areas during the afternoon and evening and will be heavy for a time.

Met Éireann states that Sunday night will be dry and cold with clear spells, though cloud will increase later near west coasts. A widespread frost with the risk of icy patches. Lowest temperatures minus 2 to plus 3 Celsius - coldest inland. A few shallow fog patches may form in light variable mainly southwest breezes. Winds will freshen in the west later.

Met Éireann says Monday will begin dry over eastern counties. Rain having arrived on west coasts during the morning will gradually spread east to all areas during the afternoon and evening. The rain will be heavy for a time and may be preceded by sleet over northern hills and accompanied by fresh blustery southwest winds. Clearer colder conditions with rain or hail showers will follow later as winds veer northwest. Highest temperatures will range from 3 degrees in the north to 8 degrees near southwest coasts.

Remaining rain in eastern counties will clear early on Monday night, and scattered showers will continue to feed in across the country from the Atlantic. Some of the showers will be heavy and possibly thundery, and they will turn increasingly wintry overnight, falling as a mixture of rain, hail, sleet and snow, producing a heightened risk of icy stretches on untreated surfaces. Minimum temperatures minus 2 to plus 2 degrees Celsius in mainly moderate westerly winds, which will be fresh to strong and gusty near coasts. Frost forming in sheltered spots.
