Our 2018 Annual will be in the shops soon

Remember the year that was 2018 with our exciting Longford Leader Longford Annual 2018.

Our packed 88 page Longford Annual 2018 reflects on many of the highlights of the year and it also features a nostalgic look back to yesteryear.

Longford’s literary tradition is alive and well and our Annual features insightful interviews with John Connell, author of the bestselling ‘The Cow Book’ and Seán Ó Súilleabháin, author of ‘Under the Thatch: Memories of a Longford Childhood’.

Modern Ireland is very social media focused and one of the county’s foremost Facebook pages is Humans of Longford, curated and compiled by Tiernan Dolan. The Annual includes an interview with Tiernan and we also reproduce a selection of the most popular Humans of Longford posts.

The Longford Rose Loren Katie Logan reflects on her hectic 2018 and for music fans, we’ve interviews with rising stars such as Brave Giant, Katie Gallagher and Joe Regan of State Lights.

St Mel’s Musical Society celebrated the 40th anniversary of their revival and the Annual includes photos and programme covers from musical productions over the past four decades.

There are historical articles on JP Farrell, founder of the Longford Leader and the Blacksmith of Ballinalee General Sean MacEoin, and we also take a look back at the 1958 All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil which took place in Longford town, we reproduce the report from Longford’s memorable 1968 Leinster Senior Football Final victory over Laois and Derek Cobbe, Editor of the Longford News, remembers 1978 as RTE’s PM rolled into town.

A selection of Brigid Mullooly’s favourite photographs are also published, along with a number of pages of your special wedding day images.

There are bright days ahead for Longford on the tourism front and we look forward to the 2019 opening of Center Parcs Longford Forest, and highlight the opening of Knights & Conquests Heritage & Visitor Centre in Granard, Abbeyshrule’s Tidy Towns success and the progress of Lough Ree Distillery, Lanesboro and the launch of its new Sling Shot Gin.

We look back on a year where the weather dominated the headlines and look ahead to 2019 and the prospect of general and local elections. In sport, we select our rising Longford stars to watch out for in 2019.

Longford Leader Managing Editor Alan Walsh explained, "The Longford Annual 2018 is an absorbing and engaging read for anyone interested in community life locally. It is the ideal stocking filler and will certainly get people talking over the festive season.

“We were delighted with the feedback from last year’s annual publication and this year’s book is bigger and better encompassing the events that really mattered in 2018."

So don’t miss out on this wonderful authentic Longford Christmas gift. Whether at home or abroad, this is the ideal Christmas present for local people this year.
