Polish woman to contest Longford driving charge

A Polish woman has said she intends pleading not guilty to a charge of driving without reasonable consideration in Longford town last year.

Monica Warchol, 30 Canal Green, Prospect Woods, Longford was charged in the aftermath of a road traffic collision at Dublin Road, Longford on January 22 2016.

The court was told Ms Warchol was at a set of traffic lights and in the process of turning right into Teffia Park when the incident occurred.

Defence barrister Michael Mullooly BL said Ms Warchol was “adamant” as to her own involvement and was entitled to turn right owing to the prominence of a green filter light.

“She will say she had the green light,” added Mr Mullooly.

“There is a conflict of evidence between the two parties and there is no independent witness.”

Mr Mullooly said he was reluctant to go any further into the case without the aid of a Polish interpreter being present to assist his client.

Judge Hughes adjourned the case until March 14 when it is expected the matter  will be heard in full.
