A recent report from the National Treatment Purchase Fund shows that at the end of last month more than 5,000 people were on the waiting list on hospitals serving the Midlands and North West regions as of the end of March.
A breakdown of the figures confirmed that over 330 of those patients have been waiting for a period of 18-months or longer at local hospitals.
The figures confirmed a total of 5,189 people, including 182 children were on waiting lists at four hospitals in the wider region in Sligo, Roscommon, Portiuncula and Mullingar hospitals.

The highest number of patients waiting were in Sligo University Hospital where 3,356 people were languishing, followed by Roscommon Hospital were a total of 820 people were awaiting treatment.
The report found that there were 520 people were on the waiting list at Portiuncula and at Mullingar Regional Hospital 493 were in the queue for treatment.
There were a total of 115,216 patients waiting across the country.
