Hundreds of walkers are expected in north Longford this Saturday as part of a major fundraiser to help bring very ill people to Lourdes.
For this year's Dromard Camino Walk, which is been driven by Fr PJ Hughes and the North Longford parish of Dromard, which is located just outside of Aughavas, Gorlettera and Carrigallen, and is supported by the local GAA club and the parish council.
100% of proceeds go to the Ardagh & Clonmacnois Lourdes Assisted Pilgrim Fund (other than small expenses for food, medals, porta-loo’s, adverts, etc.). This year the diocese is bringing 37 sick pilgrims on the pilgrimage. In recent years, raising enough funds to bring ill pilgrims and cover support staff costs has become a major challenge. It is hoped that this fundraiser will help fill this gap.
Kevin Hourican explained, "We hope people will turn out in large numbers to support this extremely worthy cause while enjoying a healthy walk through in the picturesque countryside of North Longford. Walkers can choose to walk either 20km or 10km."#
Kevin added, "Ideally people will book a place by visiting the website https://dromardcaminowalk.iebeforehand so that we can plan for facilities, medals, refreshments, etc, However, if you are unable to do that, you can book your place on the morning of the walk. It's €50 euro to join or €100 for a group of three, etc., with this money going to an extremely worthy cause. The walk begins at Dromard GAA clubhouse, Eircode N39 XK11, at 8am on April 11, with registration beforehand. Please support this very deserving cause, full details can be found on: www.DromardCaminoWalk.ie
