Special permit rates are available within the paid parking zones for Longford town centre residents
Longford County Council is calling on residents, workers and regular town visitors to take advantage of significant savings by registering for parking permits.
The annual parking rate for all day car parks currently is in the region of €720. However, those who secure a quarterly permit will pay just €125 per quarter, €250 half-yearly, or €500 annually, offering genuine value for those who park regularly in Longford Town.
These permits grant access to the following eight long term car parks, located on Main Street, Ballymahon Street, Church Street, Earl Street, Harbour Point, Cathedral, St. Mel's Road, and Gill's car park, providing flexibility and convenience for daily commuters, shoppers, and town centre workers.
Special permit rates are available within the paid parking zones for Longford town centre residents (€75 annually), carers (€30 annually), and those over 66 (free). A contractors’ permit is also available (€40 per week) and a visitors’ permit (€30 per week).
Chief Executive of Longford County Council Paddy Mahon, said, "For anyone who parks regularly in Longford Town, a parking permit represents a smart financial decision. Rather than paying daily or weekly rates that quickly accumulate, a permit holder can make real savings.
"This isn't just about parking; it's about making town centre access affordable and straightforward for our community."
Cathaoirleach of Longford County Council, Cllr Garry Murtagh said, "Our town thrives when people can access it easily and affordably. These permits remove the daily worry about feeding a parking machine. For families, workers, and those who support local businesses week after week, the savings are considerable.
"I would urge everyone who uses town centre parking regularly to consider applying. The Council has worked hard to create options that suit different needs and budgets."
Application forms can be obtained from Longford County Council's Traffic Section at Great Water Street, Longford, or can be accessed via the portal on Longford County Council’s website: www.longfordcoco.ie/parking-permits
All permit applications should be submitted to the Traffic Section by post or in person or online via the portal. Terms and conditions apply to all permit types.
