Elderly woman injured in hit and run

A man is helping Gardaí with their inquiries after a Longford town woman was injured in a hit and run incident on Friday last.

A 72-year-old local woman was crossing the main road at the post office at approximately 11:40am when she was struck by a black car driving through the town.

Gardaí said the driver failed to stop and subsequently left the scene.

The woman was taken to the Midland Regional Hospital, Mullingar, and was treated for minor injuries.

The Longford town native has since been discharged from the medical facility and is said to be doing well.

Longford Gardaí confirmed to the Leader on Monday that a man had come forward in relation to the incident and was now helping them with their investigations into the matter.

“We would be appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident last Friday to come forward and help us with our inquires,” a garda spokesperson told the Leader.

Longford Garda station can be contacted on (043) 3350570.
