Councillor Niall Gannon has highlighted the concerns of Glack and Teffia residents over the use of an abandoned factory by squatters.
A recent meeting of Longford Municipal District heard how the factory, which has become a centre point of “persistent anti-social behaviour”, is adjacent to residential homes and that the situation has resulted in “late-night noise disturbance, increased footfall from unknown and unwanted individuals, and a general sense of fear, intimidation, and unease among local residents.”

Cllr Gannon called for urgent intervention from the council in conjunction with the property owner and An Garda Síochána.
Director of Services, John Brannigan, replied that the council were “acutely aware of the situation” and had placed a 'dangerous site' notice on the building on January 22.

Once 14 days have passed, explained Mr Brannigan, the Environment Section of Longford County Council can then carry out thorough investigations of the site and proceed accordingly.
