Longford has been allocated €3.5 million for Active Travel projects
A number of Longford based projects will share a €3.5m funding windfall as part of the Active Travel and Greenways Scheme 2026.
Some of the projects to benefit will include: €500,000 for the Bus Stops Enhancement Programme which will involve the upgrading of bus stops across the county including the installation of bus poles and hardstanding areas.

€480,000 will go towards the acquisition of required lands in Ballymahon and the provision of walking and cycling infrastructure on the R392 between St Matthew’s National School and the Moygh Road Junction.
In Stonepark, €400,000 has been allocated to fund a shared pedestrian and cycle route along the local road from the Silver Birches residential estate to Stonepark National School and Grattan Óg GAA Club.
€150,000 is set to fund a Safe Routes to School project at Killashee’s St Earnan’s National School. This project will include the creation of a school zone and improved walking and cycling links to the school.

In Drumlish, €100,000 was granted to safety measures in Drumlish, namely junction tightening, raised pedestrian crossings, and bus stops. Killasonna National School will benefit from €100,000 which will go towards the provision of infrastructure to highlight the presence of a school and to reduce speeding outside the school.
€60,000 will be given to new pedestrian crossings and junction tightening in Aughnacliff, with the same amount going to a pedestrian and cycle scheme in Granard, namely Market Street to Barrack Lane.
Bunlahy National School will receive €15,000 to provide infrastructure to highlight the presence of a school in a bid to reduce speeding.

An allocation of €15,000 will go towards the implementation of a Safe Routes to School project in Cloontagh, namely at Scoil Naomh Íde, where works will include the creation of a school zone and improvements to pedestrian and cycle access.
Likewise in Cloonagh, Killashee, funding of €15,000 will also be allocated for a Safe Routes to School project at St Columba’s National School where a school zone and improved pedestrian and cycling access will be delivered.
