There was plenty to smile about inside the grounds of Drumlish pre-school, ABC Childcare last week.
Children were joined by their parents and staff from the Drumlish establishment for a novel fundraiser led by its manager, Noeline Kiernan.
Through her work and educational background, the Aughnacliffe native began looking into the possibility of creating a remembrance garden and counselling area at ABC.
A fundraiser held last week drew large crowds from across the parish.
“We have had very positive and inspirational feed back from parents family and friends of children attending ABC childcare since we first came up with the idea,” said Noeline.
With a diploma in professional counselling and further qualifications in psychology under her belt, Noeline decided to create a dedicated space for counselling and reflection at the childcare facility - an innovative concept in this field.
“I have supported children in the past through difficult times, but I feel to give them the support they need I would like to offer this in a private area instead of using my office where all children can see who is in with me,” said Noeline.
The new facility when built, will offer free a space to help children cope with the loss of a loved one, or issues such as bullying and changes within their own family network.
Plans are afoot to provide similar supports to parents, with group sessions geared towards tackling the likes of suicide and bereavement.
“If this whole area only helps one person in the local community, it will have been a success and very worthwhile doing,” added Noeline.
