This coming week, from March 24 - 28, the students of Meánscoil Mhuire will host a Health Promotion Week.
Organised by a committee of fifth year students and teachers, the aim of the Health Promotion Week is to tackle a variety of issues and raise awareness of both mental and physical health in the school environment.
Each day will be themed and activities will take place based around that theme. Starting with ‘Mindful Monday’ and going all the way through to ‘Friendship Friday’, the week will revolve around the five ‘Emotional Wells’ common in holistic practice; cognitive, emotional, creative, spiritual and physical. Activities to reflect these ‘wells’ include; productions from Humour Fit, yoga, a teacher versus pupil basketball match and quiz and a mile run.
The students will also participate in many entertaining lunch time activities and the school will be filled with music at break time as two resident DJs choose songs to reflect the themes of each day.
Many guest speakers will visit the school during the week, such as NEPS Psychologists, Aware, Sarah Browne Dietician, local Gardaí, J osephine McGrath of Embrace Beauticians, Theresa Connell from Foróige and Melanie Nocher from Swim Ireland.
Both staff and students would like to thank all those who are volunteering their time and services to help us raise awareness of health in teenagers and, of course, sponsors.
