Uisce Éireann has completed a critical water main replacement in Granard

As part of its National Leakage Reduction Programme, 665 metres of ageing water mains have been replaced on Dublin Street (N55) from the Granard Business Park to the junction at Church Street.

This investment will not only improve water quality in Granard but will provide a more secure and reliable water supply for the town with reduced leakage of treated water into the ground.

Uisce Éireann’s Portfolio Manager, Dave Murphy, said: “We’re delighted to complete this important upgrade in Granard. This section of water main had experienced frequent leaks over the years, making its replacement a priority. By replacing over 665 metres of old water mains, we have improved the reliability and quality of the water supply, reduced leakage, and strengthened the network for future generations. We appreciate the patience and support of the local community as we carried out these essential works.”

This is Uisce Éireann’s second major upgrade works in Granard in 2025 and follows the replacement of over 400m of old mains with new pipes in Colmcille Terrace earlier this year, showing our continued dedication to the town and Longford as a whole.

Shareridge carried out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
