There was palpable excitement in two Longford secondary schools - Meán Scoil Mhuire and St Mel's College - on Monday, November 24, when a 3rd Year student from each school, Clodagh Kennedy (Meán Scoil Mhuire) and Ronan Grealy (St Mel's College) featured live on Ireland AM on Virgin Media.

Clodagh and Ronan were accompanied by Siobhán Grealy (Longford County Council STEM Engagement Officer) and Christine Collins (Longford County Council Broadband Officer) as they spoke to show presenters Alan Hughes and Tommy Bowe about award-winning STEM programmes being delivered across the Midlands.

Clodagh and Ronan spoke eloquently about their classroom STEM experiences and their involvement in STEM projects.

Meán Scoil Mhuire wish to congratulate Clodagh and express a sincere thank you to Ms McGoey for her time, dedication and enthusiasm for the robotics and STEM projects in the school.

Ronan, a member of St Mel's College Robotics Club, gave a very polished performance as he talked about the surging interest in STEM activities within Longford and the wider Midlands region.

Both schools extend a huge thanks to Siobhan and Christine from Longford County Council for all of the work they are putting in to ensure the Midlands region continues to be a leader in the field of STEM education.
