A number of students were celebrating recently, having completed a BA degree in Business, Enterprise and Community Development.

Facilitated through the Employment Development Information (EDI) Centre, Longford, the degree was delivered by Equal Ireland through Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT).

Equal Ireland provide third level educational opportunities to those who may have missed out on third level education for any number of reasons.

Carried out over a 2-year period, the programme consists of 8 modules, leading to a level 7 degree qualification. All of the students completed successfully thanks to local delivery in a modern well equipped learning environment in the EDI Centre. The participants all expressed their gratitude to EDI Centre Coordinator Mary Smith for providing the resources that now allow local access to a third level programme, thus making it economically viable to study, without the stress of travelling to larger educational colleges. The ethos of the centre is to always encourage participation and support participants in enhancing their learning experiences.

These students were determined to use education as a way of improving both their self-development and increase their employment opportunities. Having successfully completed they now have a much higher level of confidence in their abilities in human resource management, community development, information communications technologies and have in depth knowledge and understanding of business and enterprise Development and the associated financial accounting requirements.

This is just one of the services that the EDI Centre provides to increase and enhance employability prospects and encourage Life Long Learning in a friendly and welcoming environment, always ensuring that the learning experience is both enjoyable and fulfilling. In facilitating a third level qualification locally the EDI Centre ensures that both staff and people in the wider community can achieve their full potential.

EQUAL Ireland has a long relationship with the EDI Centre in Longford, having delivered both the Higher Certificate and more recently the BA programme in the Centre.
