NSPCA Longford recently shared a rescue case of a female Lurcher who is looking at spending her third Christmas in a shelter.
The shelter has described the five-year-old Lurcher Ellie as gentle and affectionate and said that she adores other people.
"My favourite part of every day is going for walks, well that and cuddle time. What Lurcher doesn’t love snuggling up beside you, relaxing, and hearing how wonderful they are?" NSPCA Longford said.
Ellie was rescued back in 2023 at NSPCA Longford and when no one came to adopt her she was moved to NSPCA Wicklow whre she eventually found a family who wanted to take her home.
She got to spend five happy months with the loving family but unfortunately it didn't last.
"Sometimes love isn’t enough....the children in the home were sweet, but I struggled sharing my cosy couch spot with them. It wasn’t their fault, I just wasn’t used to it....now I know what kind of home I truly need. An adult only home where they will understand me and as the saying goes - let sleeping dogs lie.
"I still like saying hi to children out on my walks. While I can be selective with my doggie friends, I do enjoy the company of some dogs I know well, but a calm, pet free home is best for me," the shelter said.
"I’m playful, I’m fun, and when I’m out exploring, I enjoy every second. But the waiting… it’s hard. Some days I feel like giving up. I’m trying to be brave and stay positive, but the thought of spending a third Christmas in a shelter is breaking my big Lurcher heart," the Facebook post by NSPCA Longford said.
Ellie is a 5 year old Lurcher and is currently based in NSPCA Wicklow. If you would like to find out more about her and arrange to meet her you can:
