The case was heard at Longford Circuit Court
A rogue motorist, who was convicted of driving without insurance for the eleventh time, has been sentenced to six months in prison and disqualified for 10 years.
Keith Foley of 5 Windmill Court, Skerries, Dublin pleaded guilty to driving without a policy and while disqualified on September 10, 2022.
Garda Sergeant Rob Charman said he was on duty at Cloondara ,Longford shortly after 11pm when he stopped a blue BMW car and the driver identified himself as the defendant.
"Mr Foley admitted at the scene to not holding a driving licence or insurance on the vehicle and the car was impounded.”
Sgt Charman said subsequent Garda checks were carried out and they showed that the defendant was disqualified from driving at the time of this offence
Judge Deirdre Gearty asked if Mr Foley had paid to have the vehicle returned to him, but Sgt Charman said he had not done so.
The court heard the defendant had 86 previous convictions and 59 of those were for road traffic offences and 10 were for driving without insurance.
Judge Gearty decided to impose a six month custodial sentence, which she backdated to May 15 last, the day the defendant was taken into Garda custody.
She also imposed a decade-long driving ban and warned him about driving while uninsured and while disqualified in future.
