Longford Sports Partnership, in collaboration with media partner The Longford Leader and Longford County Council, is proud to announce the 2025 Longford Sports Awards.

Sport in County Longford has reached new heights in 2025. Athletes and clubs across the county have delivered outstanding performances, achieving success that far surpasses expectations for a county of its size.

These accomplishments reflect not only individual excellence but also the strength of our sporting community—and they deserve to be recognised.

The Longford Sports Awards honour the dedication, talent, and impact of athletes, volunteers, and community leaders who have shaped sport in Longford over the past year.

These individuals are not only excelling in their fields—they are quietly inspiring others to take part, to try something new, and to belong.

Nominations are now open for the following categories:
 Exceptional Service to Sport / Hall of Fame
 Volunteer of the Year
 Team of the Year
 Junior Sportsperson of the Year
 Sports Ability

These categories reflect the values at the heart of Longford Sports Partnership: participation,
inclusion, and community.

Sport should be open to everyone—regardless of age, background, or ability.

Recognising those who break down barriers and build up others is central to our mission.

Cllr Garry Murtagh, Cathaoirleach of Longford County Council, said: “Sport in Longford is about
more than medals. It’s about pride, identity, and opportunity. Our athletes carry the spirit of
Longford with them—on local pitches and national stages.

"But none of this would be possible without the volunteers who give their time, energy, and heart. They are the backbone of sport in our county.”

Paddy Mahon, Chief Executive of Longford County Council, added: “These awards are a chance to
shine a light on the people who have shaped sport in County Longford.

"From elite athletes to grassroots volunteers, their efforts deserve to be seen and celebrated. We are delighted to partner with The Longford Leader to share and celebrate their stories.”
