A man is currently being questioned by detectives in Cavan after cannabis plants worth an estimated €200,000 were seized in Arva last night (Thursday).
Officers from Cavan’s Divisional Drugs Unit were joined by members from the Regional Support Unit (RSU) and local gardai during the planned operation at around 8pm.
It’s understood a number of plants, in various stages of growth, were recovered along with several items of drug cultivation paraphernalia.
The house, which is a rented property located on the edge of the Co Cavan town, had been modified to meet the needs of a fully-functioning grow-house.
A man, aged 40, was arrested at the scene and taken to Cavan Garda Station where he is being questioned under the Misuse of Drugs legislation.
A full forensic examination was carried out by officers who worked through the night before leaving the scene at around 8am this morning.
All of the cannabis plants that were seized have likewise been removed for analysis as part of the investigation.
Last night’s find represents the latest in an increasing line of cannabis grow house seizures by gardai who, in some cases, are now using surveillance and energy grid analysis to locate suspect properties.
