Senior Football Success
On September 23, 2025, the Senior Ladies football team travelled to St Loman’s GAA pitch in Mullingar, to face Loreto, Mullingar, in their first round of the championship. They were the underdogs heading into the game, as Loreto had beaten them in the previous few games and Loreto were strong favourites to win this game.

Meán Scoil Mhuire put out a strong team and were confident in each other that they would get the win! Meán Scoil Mhuire started the game well by winning the throw-in. The team kept the intensity in the game for the whole match. They pressed up for Loreto’s kick out and turned them over many times. Meán Scoil Mhuire worked hard out of possession and had great supporting play in attack. Meán Scoil Mhuire went in at half-time ahead by a score of 1-12 to 0-0.

Loreto came out gunning in the second half and got an early goal but this didn’t bother Meán Scoil Mhuire, who kept their cool to score another seven points. Meán Scoil Mhuire’s subs impacted the game and they had a strong finish, winning on a score line of 4-19 to 1-03! Congratulations to all involved and a special thank you to the coaches, Ms Killeen and Ms O’ Farrell. The team plays Our Lady’s Bower next week. Match report by Shauna Madden, TY.

Rugby Season Commences
Our rugby season kicked off on September 25th, with our first training session for 1st Year, junior and senior girls. Over forty students participated in training and began their preparations for the upcoming Leinster Rugby blitzes. We would like to thank Glenn of Longford Rugby Club/ Leinster Rugby for his assistance in coaching the teams and the students for their enthusiasm and commitment. The team will travel to Tullamore next Tuesday for the Midlands 7s School Blitz organised by Leinster Rugby.

Mercy Day
Mercy Day is a fundamentally important day in the school calendar as we honour and celebrate the founder of the Mercy order, The Venerable Catherine McAuley, and the immense contribution of the Sisters of Mercy to education around the world.
The theme of Mercy Day 2025 was The Cloak of Mercy: From Many Homes, One Mercy Family- Wrapped in God’s Love.
On Wednesday, September 24th, Mercy Day, students and staff gathered in Saint Mel’s Cathedral to celebrate our Opening School Year Mass and to celebrate this important day.

Fr. Michael warmly welcomed everyone, especially our new first-year students, into the Mercy family.

During the celebration, symbols were carried to the altar as a reminder that we are all united under the one Mercy Cloak.

The readings encouraged us to treat one another with compassion and mercy, while the School Choir enriched the liturgy with their beautiful music.

We were delighted to be joined by parents and the Sisters of Mercy, whose presence added to the occasion.

A heartfelt thank you goes to our readers, gift bearers, Eucharistic ministers, singers, musicians, the Religion Department, Gerry our sacristan, and of course, Fr Michael, for making the celebrations so special.

REVERB at the Backstage!
Our TY and Third Year students enjoyed an electrifying performance by REVERB, an infectious, high-energy dance and live-music performance incorporating modern and Irish music, in the Backstage last Monday, September 22nd.
The students especially enjoyed the audience participation element of the performance!
