Longford County Council was asked to investigate maintaining the Ballinalee walkway which is all overgrown
A Fine Gael councillor has praised the recent tidying of the Ballinalee walkway, which he stated was 'paramount' as it is used a lot by the parish and surrounding areas.
Addressing the council, who Cllr Colin Dalton said keep the walkway in great condition for the community to use, he added that further works should be taking place around October or November, but not September in line with environmental laws.
“Look we have a fantastic walkway in our village and it is important to keep it maintained for our parish and surrounding areas that use it.
"I’m glad from the meeting that the walkway has been trimmed and there will be more work later in the year. I welcome this,” stated Cllr Dalton .
The motion before Granard MD meeting was to ask Longford County Council to investigate maintaining the Ballinalee walkway which is all overgrown, which was seconded by Councillor Turlough McGovern.
It was said that the community reached out to Cllr Dalton for help to get it sorted.
Cllr Dalton stated those benefitting from the walkway are not just Ballinalee residents but beyond.
“Some of these walkways can’t be done by the community and only done by the council. Other parts of the village are Tidy Towns and workers keep the village nice and clean. It’s a fantastic village.”
With Ballinalee included in walkway maintenance, Cllr Dalton welcomed its continued upkeep by the Longford County Council.
