Having been closed for extensive drainage and resurfacing work for over twelve months, Dromard GAA was delighted to recently reopen its two playing pitches at Páirc na nGael.
The original pitches were laid 29 years ago and had deteriorated severely through wear and tear and extensive usage by all their club teams over the years.
This major project was completed successfully with the support of National Lottery funding.

The club was very grateful to receive €140,000 under the 2020 Sports Capital and Equipment Programme from the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport which was used to fund the redevelopment of the pitches.
The club is thankful to Hyland Turfcare – the main contractor for drainage and resurfacing work – for their professionalism and the high quality of the work carried out on the pitches.
Recently, Dromard GAA club also installed solar panels on their impressive clubhouse at Páirc na nGael which was made possible thanks to funding received under the Community Climate Action Fund Strand 1 through Longford County Council and the Department of Environment, Climate and Communications.
Thanks to the main contractor Norman Hall and Emerald Renewables for their expertise in the installation of the solar panels.
The success of these upgrades in conjunction with the other community facilities at Páirc na nGael – i.e., community walking track, exercise area, disabled access, community childcare facility and playground and the sustainable initiatives carried out on the complex – will expand the services of Dromard GAA to the entire community and further enhance the Club’s positive impact in the North Longford area.
In recognition of the enhancements made to their facilities at Páirc na nGael over the last 12 months to the highest standards, Dromard GAA was recently named a County Finalist in the Sports Category of the 2025 National Lottery Good Causes Awards.
These facilities provide a major public amenity for Dromard and the wider North Longford Community, catering for all ages and abilities.
The Club would like to thank everyone involved in the successful completion of these major projects over the last 18 months including the many volunteers, their loyal supporters and sponsors Breffni Arms Hotel, Arva and local representatives without whose backing this work would not have been possible.
To officially mark the reopening of their upgraded facilities, Dromard will host a series of events on August Bank Holiday Monday (August 4).
The day will include a number of exhibition games featuring players at all age groups. The Dromard senior team will take on their neighbours Arva – All Ireland Junior Club Champions 2023.
That evening in the Breffni Arms Hotel, the Club will host a social night featuring renowned country singer Claudia Buckley. Doors open at 9.30pm and dancing starts at 10.30pm. Tickets cost €20 and are available locally.
