'Falling on street outside a shop' -County Longford man fined for public order breach

The case was heard at Longford District Court

A county Longford man, who was highly intoxicated and was arrested for his own safety, has been convicted and fined.

Kevin Carberry of Killinure, Lanesboro pleaded guilty to being intoxicated in a public place at Main Street, Longford on November 30, 2024.

Sergeant Enda Daly said Gardaí were on patrol on November 30, 2024 at 9.50pm when they observed a man falling on the street outside a shop.

Officers spoke to the man who was very drunk and "stumbling while attempting to walk".

Sgt Daly said Gardaí decided to arrest him for his own safety and the safety of others.

The court heard Mr Carberry had no previous convictions.

The defendant who addressed Judge Bernadette Owens said he had gone down a bad road due to addiction and he was trying to address that issue.

Judge Bernadette Owens considered the case and she imposed a €100 fine with six months to pay.
