It was a weekend to remember for Lanesboro Triathlon Club on July 12th, as the annual Two Provinces Triathlon once again showcased the very best of community spirit, athletic achievement and exceptional event organisation. This year saw the club hosting the National Championships, effectively the all-Ireland final of triathlon events. Held on Friday 11th and Saturday 12th July, the Two Provinces Triathlon not only delivered another thrilling edition with 800 junior and adult triathletes competing, but also hosted the 2025 Sprint National Championship, where Ireland’s sprint champions were crowned.

This prestigious recognition highlights the club’s outstanding dedication, the enthusiasm of its athletes and the tireless efforts of its volunteers and marshals. Established in 2010, the Two Provinces Triathlon has grown into a flagship event on the Triathlon Ireland National Series, consistently attracting competitors from across the country. Known for its superb organisation and warm welcome, it has earned a reputation as one of the most enjoyable fixtures on the Irish triathlon calendar, bringing significant footfall to the area.

Race Director Niall Mulvihill paid tribute to the extraordinary local support:

‘This race simply could not happen without the support of the Lanesboro, Ballyleague, and Cloontuskert communities. We are truly grateful for their commitment and sincerely thank all our volunteers as well as our generous sponsors. I would like to pay a special tribute to our long-time supporter Brendan Cooney, Cooney’s Homevalue Hardware and welcome a new sponsor partnership with EirGrid. We would also like to acknowledge the support received from Longford County Council and LEADER via Longford Community Resources Ltd.’

The men’s race was won by Donal Mongey of Naas Triathlon Club with Becky Woods from Piranha Triathlon Club victorious in the women’s event. The elite draft legal races were won by Cameron Kerr and Emma O’Brien from Wicklow Triathlon Club.
