200 new jobs ‘a sign that Longford is very much open for business’

There was a very warm reaction to the big jobs announcement and the multi-million investment at the official opening of the impressive Food Village facility at Mastertech Business Park in Longford town.


Chairperson of Food Village’s Advisory Board, Frank Gleeson joined founder and CEO, Richie Nangle and Business Partner and COO, Joe Kavanagh, Longford Oireachtas members, councillors and council executives at the launch.


Longford TD Micheál Carrigy and Senator Joe Flaherty, Longford County Council Chief Executive Paddy Mahon and Head of Local Enterprise Michael Nevin were in attendance as were Longford MD Cathoirleach Seamus Butler, Fine Gael Councillor Peggy Nolan and Fianna Fáil Councillors Martin Monaghan and David Cassidy.

Senator Flaherty said it was a great day and a very positive news story.


"I want to pay particular tribute to the head of the LEO Michael Nevin who was the initial contact between company founder Richie Nangle and ensured that the facility was brought to Longford and started here.


"I know Michael was very hands-on in delivering the IDA advance factory site for Longford town so it's proof positive of the work that is done over several years for enterprise in Longford."

Cllr Nolan, the Leas Cathoirleach of the local authority, said 200 new jobs for Longford was fantastic.


"For me it's sending a sign out that Longford is very much open for business and we are ready to facilitate any company who wants to locate here and they will be welcomed with open arms."


Cllr Butler said the announcement was very welcome and a big boost to the county and it showed Longford can accommodate manufacturing, service industries and do distribution as well.

"It really highlights what a good distribution centre Longford is, in the centre of the country.
"They talk about 70,000 meals a day coming out of this complex and that will go to secondary schools all around the country," he added.


Cllr Monaghan said Food Village coming to Longford and connecting with Fresh Today is a huge vote of confidence in the town.

"It's an indigenous business, 200 jobs, €3 million investment and the expansion they have planned for this site is huge over the next couple of years.


"I think it's a huge vote of confidence in the town."

Cllr Cassidy stated "200 jobs being created for Longford is a massive boost for the local economy and it's a hugely impressive facility.”
