Longford farm is set to go under the hammer at public auction

A traditional detached cottage set on c.65 acres of excellent fattening land in county Longford and overlooking Lough Ree, with an AMV of €500,000, will be sold at a public auction on Thursday, June 12 at 3pm in Cooney’s Hotel, Ballymahon.

The property, located at Derrymacar, Newtowncashel, N39 W866, features a range of outbuildings and according to Dillon Murtagh of auctioneers, Murtagh Bros, it ‘offers endless potential as a redevelopment project’.

He added, “The lands are laid out in neat tidy divisions, very well fenced for sheep and cattle and suitable for any farming enterprise.”

The property will be sold in one or more lots. (Lot 1 – Cottage on c. 0.25 acres. Lot 2 – c.21.5 acres. Lot 3 – Cottage on c.21.75 acres. Lot 4 c. 8.5 acres. Lot 5 – c. 35 acres.)

Location: From Ballymahon take the R392 toward Lanesboro, at Foygh crossroads (Leavy’s Pub) turn left onto the L1135, continue c.2km and keep right onto the L1139, follow this road for a further c.2 km and turn left just before the rail line and the property is at the end of this short cul-de-sac.

Dillon Murtagh says the property is suitable for the Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant which provides funding to refurbish vacant and derelict homes. The grant is up to €70,000, for vacant derelict properties.
