Last week saw the first meeting of the Amalgamation Steering Committee of Mean Scoil Mhuire and St Mel's College. This Meeting also saw the reveal of what the new school will be called.
Following the announcement of the amalgamation of Méan Scoil Mhuire and St. Mel’s College Longford by the Patrons, CEIST and the Diocese of Ardagh and Clonmacnois, planning for the amalgamation began last week with the first meeting of the Amalgamation Steering Committee appointed by the Patrons and comprising representatives of the Patrons, Staff and Parents, under the chairmanship of Mr. Colin Roddy.
It is proposed that the new school be up and running in September 2027, depending on the new school building developments being in place by this time.

The name of the new school is Coláiste Mel agus Mhuire.
The committee initiated the process with an outline of the tasks ahead which will include, among many others:
•Development of Mission Statement, new school uniform and crest
•Planning for the introduction of co-education
•Planning for the harmonious integration of both school staffs, parents’
associations and students’ councils
•Development of Admissions Policy, Code of Behaviour
• Curriculum planning
Working Groups will be formed and briefed on their tasks. The working Groups will be consulting with the wider school community for ideas and input.
The Amalgamation Steering Committee will be meeting regularly to ensure its work programme is progressed in a timely fashion.
