The defendant was asked by Axa to send them documents but he forgot to do so
A motorist who was detected driving by Gardaí on an invalid insurance policy has been convicted and fined.
Stephen Kane of Balrath, Bracklyn, Mullingar appeared at Longford District Court in relation to the offence at SuperValu car park, Barrack Street, Granard, county Longford on March 31, 2024.
Sgt Enda Daly said Mr Kane was asked for his driving licence and he presented a valid Irish driving licence to Gardaí.
A demand was made to the defendant to produce his insurance cert and he brought one to Mullingar Garda Station.
However, officers contacted Axa who said it was cancelled as of October 7, 2023 due to a non-payment and therefore it was an invalid policy."
Mr Kane had no previous convictions.

Solicitor Anthony Feeney said his client was asked by Axa to send them documents but he forgot to do so and the policy was cancelled but he received no correspondence.
Judge Bernadette Owens imposed a €450 fine with four months to pay.
