Retired Councillors Luie McEntire, PJ Reilly and Martin Mulleady saw a great turnout of family, friends and former colleagues to honour their years of service

Warm tribute to honour Longford councillors retirement

A wonderful crowd of friends, family, former political colleagues and Oireachtas members were in attendance in Dillon’s, Ballinamuck on Saturday, May 3 for a presentation night to retired Fianna Fáil councillors Luie McEntire, PJ Reilly and Martin Mulleady.

Deputy Robert Troy was instrumental in organising the event along with members of the Granard Comhairle Ceantair and in particular newly elected councillor David Cassidy.

Speeches were made by Comhairle Ceantair Chairperson Ciarán Bracken, Cllr Cassidy, Deputy Brendan Smith and Deputy Troy as well as the three recipients.

Former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern sent a special video message that was played on the night.

It was highlighted that the three men had never lost an election.

Luie McEntire was a councillor for 40 years, PJ Reilly for 20 years and Martin Mulleady for 15; Mr Reilly and Mr Mulleady entered the council chamber the same year.

Granard Comhairle Ceantair would like to thank everyone that attended .
