Longford County Council through Longford Sports Partnership in collaboration with the National Transport Authority have organised an action-packed week of events which will be held throughout the county to celebrate Bike Week 2025.
Bike Week, which runs from Saturday, May 10 to Sunday, May 18 is a celebration and promotion of the benefits of cycling including the opportunity for physical exercise, enjoying our local natural and historical heritage, and contributing towards sustainable transport.
People from all cycling disciplines are welcome to come along and get involved. Highlights throughout the week in Longford include the secondary school Royal Canal Greenway group cycles with students from each secondary school in County Longford participating in guided group cycles each day during Bike Week.

Longford Cycling and Racing Club will host Longford’s first Women’s Gravel Cycle from Kenagh Community Centre at 10am on Saturday, May 10 while Longford Sports Hub in Longford Town will hold an inclusion learn to cycle taster session.
On Tuesday, May 13, at 1pm workers in Longford are invited to come out and join a Bikers’ Lunch Cycle around Longford Town.
On Friday, May 16 an older adult cycle from Clondra will see older cyclists travel along the Royal Canal Greenway with the opportunity to test out some electric bikes. Cycling will take centre stage on Friday evening at the Green in Edgeworthstown with a fun children’s cycling session at 6pm followed by a bike maintenance workshop at 7pm.

On Saturday, May 17 the Royal Canal Leisure Cycle will take cyclists on a guided cycle from Clondra to Kenagh and return with a shorter option to Killashee and return.
Bike Week concludes on Sunday, May 18 with a Family Fun Cycle in Longford Town, along the Royal Canal loop.
Bike Week events are an opportunity to dust off the bicycle and take the opportunity to find or rediscover the joy of cycling. A limited number of bikes are available to use at some events if needed.
