Ireland West Airport and Portwest launch the 2025 Airport 5k Runway Fun Run

Participants will take off down the runway to undergo the 5km course at 6pm, September 13. All are welcome to attend, with promises to bring entertainment to the whole family, to raise funds for their charity partners in 2025.

The airport charity partners for 2025 are the Connacht SBHI Branch (Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Ireland), Dillon Quirke Foundation, Mayo Roscommon Hospice, Order of Malta (Knock Branch), The National Breast Cancer Research Institute and Western Alzheimers.

A 'Virtual option' will also be available again this year for those who wish to support the charities but cannot make it on the day and would like to do a virtual run or walk, etc.

Commenting at the launch of the Portwest 5k Runway Fun Run, Joe Gilmore, Managing Director, Ireland West Airport, said, '2025 will be the 8th year of our hugely popular airport runway run, which is the only run of its type in the country. It continues to grow in popularity and is a fantastic occasion at the airport, which raises over €20,000 every year for our charity partners. The airport is delighted to again partner with six new charities this year and in doing so recognising the amazing work these charities do in their local communities and beyond. We look forward to welcoming a big crowd to the airport on the 13th of September and in turn to raising significant monies for our fantastic six charities.'

Commenting on the launch on behalf of the Runway Run sponsor, Portwest Commercial Director Orla Good said, 'Portwest is once again proud to sponsor the unique Ireland West Airport Runway Run for a seventh year. This event continues to be a fantastic celebration of community spirit, health, and generosity. We’re honoured to support such an inspiring initiative that raises vital funds for incredible Irish charities. Entry to the event costs €20 per adult and €5 for under-16s. A special family rate of €40 will be available for families of two adults and two kids.  Participants will receive a race t-shirt, complimentary car parking, and refreshments at the airport will be provided on the day.
