On Sunday, June 15, Fr Vinny Connaughton will be 40 years a priest.

He was ordained in St Mel’s Cathedral Longford on June 16, 1985. Fr Vinny’s first appointment was to the two secondary schools in Athlone, Our Lady’s Bower School, and the Marist College where he served the young people for 6 years.

He then was curate in St Mel’s Cathedral Longford for 17 years where he was instrumental in getting the accommodation for homeless people and women/children suffering from domestic violence in conjunction with St Vincent de Paul.

He named these as St Martha’s Hostel and Bethany house on the Dublin road Longford.  He used these names to show a welcome to people who would use them.

After that, Fr. Vinny spent 10 years in the parish of Killenummery & Killery (North Leitrim & South Sligo) where he renovated the three churches, parochial house and extended the local cemetery.

Just seven years ago he was appointed to Ardagh & Moydow parish, and last August was assigned to the parish of Legan & Ballycloghan as well.

On Sunday, June 15, we will join with Fr Vinny to celebrate his 40th anniversary here in St Brigid’s Church, Ardagh at the 11.30am Mass where all are invited to attend, and refreshments afterwards in the Community Centre Ardagh.

We wish Fr Vinny every good blessing and health in his ministry, and we look forward to his celebration and for him to continue the great pastoral work that he’s doing in this cluster area of Ardagh & Moydow and Legan & Ballycloghan.
