Over the bank holiday weekend Gardaí detected a motorist in Longford driving at THREE times the speed limit.
The driver was travelling at 179km/h in a 60km/h zone on the R194 in Granard, Co Longford on Easter Sunday.
An Garda Síochána revealed that over 550 drivers were detected exceeding the speed limit on Sunday and the top speed was detected in county Longford.
Other high speeds recorded were;
139km/h in a 80km/h zone on R157 Dunboyne, Co. Meath
127km/h in a 100km/h zone on N21 Adare, Co. Limerick
80km/h in a 50km/h zone on Ballymount Road, Dublin 24
A Garda spokesperson advised that 'as people return home after the long weekend we’re asking you to please slow down, do not drive while under the influence and stay focused on the road'.

Meanwhile, throughout Easter Sunday over 50 drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of an intoxicant (alcohol or drugs).
