End of an era: Renowned Arva family butchers closes doors for the final time
On Friday evening last (Good Friday) local Victualler Sean Donnelly closed his Butchers Shop on Main Street, Arva for the last time.
It was a sad scene going through the town on Saturday to see the blinds pulled down and the door closed.
For those of the older generation who remembered his late father John who returned from America and opened a Butcher Shop on Longford Street in 1973 before buying O’ Neill’s Butcher Shop on Main Street it was the end of an era.
John retired in 2010 and Sean took complete charge from then. Sean had customers from a wide area and was renowned for the quality of his meats.
He was busy on his last week accepting good wishes from his many customers and on Friday he was inundated with well wishers.

On behalf of the community we wish Sean good health to enjoy a long and happy retirement and no doubt he will not be idle for long.
