The County Longford Harriers Point to Point race meeting moves to a new venue, the historic Daramona House, in Streete, Co Westmeath, on Sunday, March 16.
Built in 1850, Daramona House was home to the internationally renowned astronomer, William E. Wilson, who built an observatory on the estate.
Set in 160 acres of parkland, it is the perfect venue for a point to point.
It is a big, wide, galloping track and spectators will be able to view all the action from the centre of the course.
One of the most enjoyable parts of attending a point to point is being able to get really close to the action.
Select your horse in the parade ring before each race, then you can stand near one of the fences and feel the exhilaration as the horses stream over the jump and gallop by.
Grade One winning trainer, Adrian Murray who is Clerk of the Course is confident of a great day’s racing with handlers bringing horses from the four provinces to take part.
The first of six races, each run over three miles, under National Hunt rules, goes to post at 1pm.
Race commentary will be provided by RTE’s racing commentator, Richard Pugh.
There will be bookmakers on course if you want to have a little flutter as well as hot food and drink and plenty of parking.
