A defendant who admitted driving in county Longford with cannabis in his system has been convicted and disqualified from driving for two years.
Milan Budik of 7 Curbo House, Great Water Street, Longford pleaded guilty at the local district court to the offence at Templemichael, Glebe on October 31, 2023 at 10.55pm.
Sergeant Enda Daly said Garda Alan Doherty observed the defendant driving from side to side and he appeared to have little control over the vehicle. The officer stopped the defendant and spoke to him and he noticed his eyes were glassy and there was a strong smell of alcohol coming from him.
Mr Budik subsequently provided an oral fluid sample roadside test which tested positive for cannabis and he was arrested.
The accused, a father of two, was arrested and brought to Longford Garda Station where a blood sample was provided and it exceeded the drug-driving limit.
Mr Budik had several previous convictions.
Solicitor John Quinn said his client was fully cooperative and he regrets the incident and he is attempting to secure gainful employment.
Judge Bernadette Owens imposed the driving ban and fined Mr Budik €500 with six months to pay.
