Huge boost as county set to receive over €400,000 in funding for Longford Community Centres

County Longford will receive over €400,000 under the Community Centre Investment Fund (CCIF), allocated to enhance and refurbish community centres across the region.

TD Micheál Carrigy said he is very pleased by the investment and he insisted the €428,746 funding underscores the government’s commitment to supporting vital community infrastructure.

The clubs and facilities set to benefit from allocations in Longford are Clonguish GAA PJ Murphy Community Hall (€89,076), Granard Community Centre (€49,952), Killoe Community Centre (€35,115), Longford Rugby Club (€100,000), Longford Slashers GAA Club (€87,030), St. Mary’s Edgeworthstown Community Campus (€32,119) and St. Brigid’s GAA Killashee (€35,454).

The government funds are designated for the improvement and refurbishment of existing community centres, ensuring they remain accessible, safe, and welcoming spaces for all.


The funding us used to enhance accessibility for all community members, the upgrade of communal facilities such as kitchens and restrooms and renovations to improve the usability of spaces, including lighting and stage areas.


The money will also be used for energy retrofitting to boost efficiency and reduce operational costs and essential maintenance to comply with health and safety regulations.

The application process for this funding was rigorous, with the online portal opening on July 29, 2024 and closing one month later.


Community and voluntary organisations were required to register and submit detailed proposals within this timeframe.


Deputy Carrigy expressed his gratitude to the dedicated committees and volunteers who invested considerable time and effort into these applications.


“Our community centres are the heartbeat of Longford, providing essential services and fostering community spirit.


"This funding is a testament to the hard work of our local volunteers, and I commend them for their unwavering commitment."
