A 58 year old Longford man accused of a number of child neglect, coercion and sexual offences dating back over 13 years was remanded on bail at Longford District Court.
The defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is charged with two counts of the wilful neglect of a child between September 2015 and September 2016, threatening to kill a named individual between August 2020 and September 2020, three counts of rape or attempt to rape of a male between November 2011 and November 2013 and one count of coercive control from March 2019.
Garda Rachel Duggan told the court that the defendant made a number of replies when the charges were put to him, including, “I didn't threaten her” and “I didn't go near him”.
The defendant, who was represented in proceedings by solicitor John Quinn, agreed to a number of bail conditions including not to contact the injured parties, sign on daily at his local Garda station, not to apply for a passport or other travel documentation, and not to leave the jurisdiction without the consent of the court.
Sergeant Mark Mahon said the DPP was looking for a prosecution on indictment in the Circuit Court.
The defendant signed a bail bond and gave an undertaking not to contact the four named individuals either directly or indirectly.
