Motorists vent frustration at Longford N4 roadworks delay

Delays of over half an hour were experienced as the roadworks resulted in a tailback of around six kilometres

Motorists have expressed concerns at the delays on the N4 as a result of the Newtownforbes to Clooniher Pavement Rehabilitation Scheme.


The project is overseen by TII project, however Longford County Council Roads section are coordinating the works.
On Monday morning delays of over half an hour were experienced as the roadworks resulted in a tailback of around six kilometres.
Drivers contacted the Longford Leader to voice their frustration at the length of the delay at rush hour.
Roadstone Ltd were appointed on behalf of Longford County Council as the main contractor for the N4 Newtownforbes to Clooniher Pavement Rehabilitation Scheme.


The resurfacing works will start at Newtownforbes village and continue for approximately 4kms west of Newtownforbes to the Rinn River Bridge.
The works commenced on Monday, January 27, 2025 with a finish date estimated as Friday, April 4, 2025, and take place between 8:00am and 5:00pm.


The works are carried out under a stop/go traffic management system, which is in place for the duration of the project. There is a special roadworks speed limit of 60km/h.
The scheme involves the road reconstruction and resurfacing; road markings and studs installation; and the ancillary accommodation works.


Longford County Council were asked for a statement on the matter, but failed to provide one before the paper went to print.
