There was deep regret in the area at the news of the passing of the late Kathy Madden (née Galligan), Bruce, Arva and formerly of Toome, Dring which took place peacefully last Wednesday, February 19 in Cavan General Hospital in her 94th year.

Kathleen was a native of Ballymachugh, where she went to school in Ballinarry followed by a domestic science course. She worked on the farm as well as making butter which she sold to neighbouring shops.

She married her husband John Willie Madden of Toome in 1963 and settled in Mullinalaghta where they were to live until John Willie passed away in 2005.

Kathleen was a great neighbour to all during her time in Toome and was noted for her hospitality to neighbours as well as to her skill in domestic work such as cooking and knitting and she had a great love of gardening.

She had a great faith and was a weekly attender at Mass in Gowna during her time in Mullinalaghta and in Coronea church after she moved to Bruce.

After John Willie’s passing she moved to Bruce Mountain close to relatives where she continued to reside until she moved to a nursing home in recent years.

She was predeceased by her husband John Willie, her parents, and her brothers Paddy, Johnny, and Larry. She is survived by her twin sister Rose Masterson, nephew John, niece Kathleen, grand-nieces and grand-nephew, extended family, neighbours and friends to whom we offer our condolences.
