Assault case to go before Longford Circuit Court

Garda Joanna Klutkowska told the judge she served the defendant with the Book of Evidence

A Cavan man facing an assault charge will have the case against him heard in the Circuit Court.


John Baxter (29) of Callanagh, Kilcogy, Cavan was facing a charge that on February 17, 2024 at Longfield, Edgeworthstown, he assaulted Karl McNabola causing him harm contrary to Section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.


Garda Joanna Klutkowska told the judge she served the defendant with the Book of Evidence against him on the morning of the court sitting.

The matter was returned for trial in the Circuit Court on the same day, Tuesday January 21, on the single charge.

Judge Bernadette Owens sent the matter forward on one count with consent to bail on Mr Baxter's own bond of €200.

The defendant was issued with an alibi warning, informing him that if he wished to rely on an alibi warning he must inform the prosecution within 14 days.
