Longford theatre group postpone production of 'Stop It Nurse'

The fall out from Storm Éowyn continues as Ballinalee Players forced to postpone their Spring production, Stop It Nurse by Sam Cree.

A statement from the group said: “Due to the ongoing power and water outages in the area Ballinalee Players have postponed their upcoming production of Sam Crees Stop It Nurse!”

It continued: “We want as many as possible of our loyal supporters to be able to attend. So we have arranged new dates on April 4, 5, and 6.

Stop It Nurse tells of Bert Cooper (a man with marital issues) and Harold Smiley (a man with a weak bladder) are in a hospital ward together when their peace is shattered as Sammy McCracken (an ardent Linfield supporter) and Frank Devlin (an equally ardent Glentoran supporter) are admitted leading to much antagonism.

Add to this the caustic Sister, the playful nurse Freda, the eccentric spinster and hospital visitor Miss Cherry and a few other hilarious characters such as the wrestler Mad McGurk, Bert’s wife Martha and his bit on the side Dolores and you have a recipe for hilarious madness and mayhem all in the setting of the hospital ward from hell.

The cast includes: Seamus Cahill as Bert Cooper, Gerald Brady as Harry Smiley, Sammy McCracken is played by Vinny Conefrey, taking on the part of Ms Ferguson is Rowena Rawle, Anne Sheridan is the Ward Sister, Felix Devlin will be played by Pat McDonnell, Dr Holmes is Jimmy Fox, Carol Vesey will portray Ms Cherry, Martha Cooper is played by Mairead Rawle, the role of Dolores Maxwell goes to Mary Sheridan, PJ Donnelly plays Mad McGurk, Bernie Conlon plays the part of Phyllis, and in the role of the Attendant is John Kane.

Director Martina Reynolds, is really looking forward to staging the show: “Ballinalee Players are delighted to bring their Spring 2025 Production to the Thomas Ashe Hall in beautiful Ballinalee. This is the perfect antidote to the January Blues. Rival football fans, straying husbands, trainee nurses , an autocratic ward sister and an all in wrestler all feature in Sam Crees laugh a minute comedy.

Tickets for Friday 7th Feb. are valid for Friday 4th April

Tickets for Saturday 8th Feb. are valid for Saturday 5th April

Tickets for Sunday 9th Feb. are valid for Sunday 6th April

Ballinalee Players are looking forward to seeing the audience in April.
