Longford allocated €3.5 million for Active Travel projects across the county

Funding of €3.5 million has been allocated to Longford County Council for Active Travel projects throughout the county.

The National Transport Authority has allocated funds to Local Authorities across Ireland for the ongoing delivery of active travel schemes in 2025.

The funding will support a range of walking and cycling schemes including improved pedestrian environments, new segregated cycling lanes, pedestrian and cycling bridges and pedestrian crossings.

The projects to be funded in Longford include; 

€510,000 - Market Street to Barrack Lane, Granard - Pedestrian and Cycle Scheme 


€490,000 - R392 Ballymahon - Pedestrian and Cycle Improvement Scheme 

€355,000 - Active Travel Pathfinder: R198 Battery Road Pedestrian and Cycle Scheme, Longford Town

€330,000 - Local Authority Active Travel Staff Costs


€260,000 - Aghafad Pedestrian and Cycle Scheme, Longford Town

€205,000 - Templemichael Cycleway and Camlin Bridge to Mall, Longford Town

€160,000 - Drumlish Junction Tightening & Crossing

€135,000 - Safe Routes To School (SRTS Round 2): Scoil Mhuire Clondra

€130,000 - Longford Town N63 Pathfinder Pedestrian & Cycle Scheme, Longford Town

€125,000 - Stonepark NS to Silver Birches Pedestrian and cycle scheme


€120,000 - Ennybegs Pedestrian & Cycling Facilities

€100,000 - Lower Battery Road, Church Street Longford Town, Active Travel Scheme

€60,000 - Royal Canal Greenway Link to Market Square

€20,000 - Safe Routes To School (SRTS Round 3): St Earnan's National School, Killashee

€500,000 - Bus Stop Enhancement Programme
