The late Margaret Cowan (née Hughes), Teffia Park, Longford Town, Co Longford

St Mel’s Musical Society, Longford has paid tribute to their late President, Margaret Cowan, who they've described as a lady of elegance and warmth who possessed a beautiful singing voice.

Margaret (née Hughes) of Teffia Park, Longford Town passed to her eternal reward peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, January 15.

Margaret was predeceased by her beloved husband Tommy, grand-daughter Alison and by her brother John.

She will be sadly missed and remembered with love by her family, daughters Deirdre Forde and Lorraine Fay, son Martin, daughter-in-law Gillian, sons-in-law Freddie (John) and Vincent, brothers Charles and Denis, sisters-in-law Wendy and Tricia, grandchildren Jemma, Amy, Marc, Nicole, David, Dylan, Isabelle, Alex and Maria, great-grandchildren Adam, Alex, Emily, Oisín, Ella and Jack, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

In a tribute, St Mel's Musical Society said it is 'with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of Margaret Cowan, President of St Mel’s Musical Society'.

The heartfelt tribute continued, "Margaret was a founding member of the society when it was revived over 45 years ago, and her commitment to St Mel’s has been unwavering ever since.

"Throughout the years, she served as an Executive Committee member, committee member, Honorary Life Member, and, most recently, as our esteemed President.

"Margaret was a proud and cherished member of St Mel’s Musical Society. She had a beautiful singing voice and an extraordinary talent for selecting the perfect shows for the society.
"A woman of wisdom and grace, Margaret spoke sparingly at meetings, but when she did, she spoke with thought and wisdom.
"Known for her elegance and warmth, Margaret always greeted everyone with a bright smile, a kind word, and her signature hug and kiss. She was a source of kindness and joy to all who knew her.
"Margaret is now reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Tommy. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
"Our heartfelt condolences go out to Margaret’s family and her wide circle of friends. Ar dheis Dé go raibh hanam."
The late Margaret Cowan will repose at Glennon’s Funeral Home, Ballinalee Road (N39 EC81) on Friday, January 17 from 7pm with Prayers at 9pm.
Mass of the Resurrection takes place on Saturday, January 18 in St Mel’s Cathedral at 11am. Interment afterwards in Ballymacormack cemetery. The Mass will be streamed live HERE. Family flowers only please donations if desired to Longford Hospice, c/o Glennon Funeral Directors or any family member. House private please.
