Gardaí in Cavan appeal for witnesses as woman airlifted to hospital in critical condition following two-car crash

Scene has been preserved for a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and road will remain closed overnight

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a serious injury road traffic collision in Virginia, Co Cavan, on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.

At approximately 1.10pm, Gardaí and emergency services responded to a two-car collision in Lisgrey. 

A passenger of one car, a woman aged in her 70s, was brought by air ambulance to the Mater Hospital, Dublin, where she is in a critical condition.

The occupant of the second car was hospitalised with non-life-threatening injuries.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. The road will remain closed overnight.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to come forward.

Additionally, road users travelling on the N3 between The Lavey Inn and Virginia between 12.45pm and 1.15pm and who may have camera footage (including dashcam recordings) are asked to make it available to Gardaí.
