North Longford community saddened by death of lovely lady Theresa 'Tess' McGoldrick

The late Theresa (Tess) McGoldrick (née Byrne), Dring, Longford

The death of Theresa McGoldrick (née Byrne), Dring, which took place peacefully on Sunday, December 29, 2024 in Mullingar Hospital, severs the last link with the Byrne family who ran the post office in Dring for many years until its closure and who provided postal services in the area.

Theresa emigrated to England at a young age and worked for many years as a nurse where she met and married her husband Jim McGoldrick. After his passing, she returned to Ireland where she built a house in Dring opposite the family home where she lived for many years before moving to Our Lady’s Manor Nursing Home where she lived until her passing.

Theresa was predeceased by her husband Jim, her parents Conor and Mary, sisters Kay Denton, Mary Mimnagh, Nan Byrne, and Phyllis Byrne, and her brothers Conor, Vincent, and Joe.

She is survived by her sister-in-law Agnes, her nephews Joseph and Conor, Leicester, England, her neighbours and a large circle of friends to whom we extend our sympathy. Her Funeral Mass took place last Tuesday, December 31 in St Joseph’s Church, Purth, with interment afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
