ESB Networks and Irish Rail worked together to restore power to those impacted
The ESB has responded to the power outage that took place on Thursday, 2 January.
“The ESB Networks can confirm that a power outage occurred on the outskirts of Longford Town on Thursday, 2 January at around 3 pm causing a loss of supply to approx 2,2000 customers,” they explained.
“ESB Networks was made aware of a fallen line in proximity to a nearby railway line.

“Irish Rail was immediately contacted to notify them of the citation and to request their support to carry out repairs.
“The location was quickly identified and isolated, ESB Networks technicians commenced supply restoration to customers and were assisted by Irish Rail staff.
“The majority of customers had their power restored by 5 pm yesterday, with the final customers (consisting of two commercial premises) restored shortly after 8 pm. An investigation is underway to establish the cause of the incident.”

The Networks wants to make clear that no ESB infrastructure was struck by a train at any stage during the incident.
“We apologise to those impacted for the disruption caused,” They concluded.
