An unwavering passion for climate communication and nature-protection saw Aughnacliffe's Liam Coyle acknowledged as a champion of the Climate Ambassador Programme.

Liam brought his climate-conscious mindset from a personal level to a professional setting as a member of the Young Professionals' Sustainability Network in KPMG and contributed content on nature and biodiversity in the KPMG Ireland Impact Report 2023.

He was recently amongst ten ambassadors honoured as a Climate Ambassador for An Taisce in 2024.

Liam's commitment to climate action saw him plant 80 trees on his family farm; as well as utilising social media to encourage others to do the same.

Following the harmful algal bloom (HAB) ecological disaster in Lough Neagh, he led a workshop with different stakeholders to create a high-level commercial idea to monitor these HABs.

He also lectured Master's students at the UCD Smurfit Graduate Business School on sustainability and why corporate leaders need to see sustainability as an essential part of their business rather than an add-on.

His work saw him honoured at the An Taisce’s annual Climate Ambassador Awards. The awards brings together citizens who are passionate about protecting the planet and rewards their local efforts to reduce the impact of climate change in Ireland.

Liam Coyle said of the The Climate Ambassador Programme: “It was transformational to receive the level of support that I did. It helped me to believe in the potential of what I could do, as well as giving me the knowledge and tools to go out and take action.”

Climate Ambassadors are inspiring change makers who hail from communities, clubs, businesses, schools, and colleges from all over Ireland.

The 148 Climate Ambassadors were trained by An Taisce’s Climate Action Team to make a real difference for the planet.

All of the Climate Ambassadors were recognised with a framed certificate, however 10 were distinguished with special awards for their impactful climate actions.

Throughout the year, they engaged their networks with biodiversity, circular fashion, education, nature restoration, youth communications, sustainable travel, sustainable energy, tree planting, rewilding, flood prevention, degrowth, food waste, and environmental advocacy.

In addition to their impressive impact and extensive list of achievements, the awardees were also commended for uniting communities, boosting neighbourhood bonds, building trust, bridging generational gaps, and raising hope for our future.

Gráinne Ryan, Climate Action Manager in An Taisce said the Aughnacliffe award winner will continue on his environmental journey: “An Taisce has no doubt that Liam will continue to inspire others to take action in KPMG and across the country.”

The programme allows individuals to join a strong network of dedicated people who share knowledge, gain insight from one another, and forge long-lasting friendships.
