Longford County Choir ready's themselves for Christmas Concert

Longford County Choir ready's themselves for Christmas Concert

The start of the Christmas season will be marked again this year by the popular Longford County Choir Christmas Celebration concert.

The concert, taking place in St Mel’s Cathedral on Sunday December 15, will also feature St Mel’s Cathedral Children’s Choir, guest soloist Eimear Reynolds Soprano and choir member, Tenor Breen McGee.

Eimear is very well known to Longford audiences through her involvement in many musicals and concerts. She has also performed extensively in the United States and Europe. Breen has been a member of the choir since its foundation. He is also a member of the Cathedral Choir and is a regular soloist in the Cathedral.

The choir and soloists will be accompanied by a string quartet, the Arioso Quartet led by Sarah Lane.

The choir is preparing a wonderful programme of seasonal favourites, new and old under the expert guidance of Musical Director, Fintan Farrelly. He will conduct and accompany the choir and orchestra on the night.

Over many years, this concert has raised significant funds for local charities. This year is very special as the nominated local charity is Cian’s Kennels. Children facing serious health conditions endure incredible challenges from a young age. Their struggles are compounded by long, isolating hospital stays, removed from the safety and comfort of their home environment. Cian’s Kennels is dedicated to restoring a sense of joy and normalcy during these difficult times by reuniting children with their beloved family dog at their purpose built unit at CHI Crumlin.

Tickets cost €10 for a single and €20 for a family. They are available from Dennistons, Farrell Stationery, The Presbytery or any choir member – and can also be purchased online by searching for ‘Longford County Choir’ on Eventbrite.

St Mel’s is a very special venue, and the choir wishes to thank Fr McKiernan Adm., and the Pastoral Council for permission to use it for this special celebration concert.
