Longford event to feature 50 exhibitors on local wellbeing services and community safety issues

Longford’s Community Safety and Wellbeing Expo is back on Tuesday, 19 November in St Mary’s Community Centre, Edgeworthstown from 11am to 2pm.  

There will be 50 exhibitors available on the day to meet and have a chat with. They will showcase local services, including taster sessions with Longford Sports Partnership. Other exhibitors include An Garda Síochána, Midlands Regional Drug and Alcohol Taskforce, Music Generation, the Money Advice and Budgeting Service, and Citizen Information and many other community organisations.

Keynote speaker will be bestselling author Dr Katriona O’Sullivan, who will deliver a motivating and uplifting wellbeing talk at 12pm. Katriona is best known for her book Poor: Grit, courage, and the life-changing value of self-belief which tells her extraordinary life story of overcoming adversity.

Longford Property Marking machine will also be there to try. This machine deters theft by engraving an identifier on personal property. It can be used on many materials including wood, leather, plastic, carbon fibre, and metal, and many items such as bicycles, scooters, trailers, lawnmowers, and other valuable equipment and machinery.

This event is organised by Longford County Council and its community engagement initiatives: Longford Community Safety Partnership, Sláintecare Healthy Communities and Healthy Longford.

This is a free event, and no prior registration is required. All are encouraged to attend. Parking may be limited on the day at St Mary’s Community Centre in Edgeworthstown and, therefore, people are encouraged to come early or park at the town centre or Edgeworthstown Library and walk to the venue, if possible.

Speaking ahead of the event, Longford County Council Cathaoirleach Cllr Mark Casey, “It is great to see the return of this event. It is where people get a chance to meet with many local service providers in one place. It is a great chance to ask questions and to learn about new services and initiatives which will help you in your day-to-day life. I encourage everyone, from community groups, school students, older and younger people, and everyone in between to come along – it is not to be missed.”

Longford County Council Chief Executive Paddy Mahon added, “This event brings local people closer to the organisations that serve them so they get a chance to ask questions and can feel better supported.
